Interview Luca Van Boven (EN)

 Interview Luca Van Boven

Last year, he was one of the outstanding riders of Bingoal-WB. This year, Luca Van Boven showed himself as an exciting prospect for Intermarché-Wanty as well. His recent second place in a though Itzulia stage showed that he made the move up to the World Tour without any major issues. In the coming years, the now 25 years old rider would like to keep setting steps forward and cross the line first one day as well. In this interview, he tells you more about himself and about how he experiences his sport as a whole.

This year, you made the step up to a World Tour team. How does this move feel to you?

The transfer to Intermarché-Wanty has gone very swiftly. Everything is even more professional and I get guided very well on the domains of training and nutrition.

This year, UCI points are very important. How do you deal with it?

Within the team, the stress is still bearable. We have a strategy and we stick to the plan. Myself, I try to finish as close as possible in the smaller races where I can ride occassionally for myself

Wich personal ambitions do you have on the long term?

I would like to get everything out of my carreer so that I don't regret anything afterwards. A victory would already be a pretty goal on the short term.

Are you looking forward to make your debut in a grand tour?

Of course, normally La Vuelta a Espana will be on my schedule.

Who were or are your examples in the sport?

Serge Baguet is my big example and he has been a good friend & mentor of me in the past.

What do you find the most difficult aspect of your job?

Being away from home has sometimes a big impact on me.

Which interests do you outside cycling?

I really enjoy gardening very much and I like to go out to a restaurant.

Do you think that the safety debate is currently about the right things? Which things would you give (higher) priority yourself?

Yes, it can be safer, next to signalisation, I would also implement a maximum gear. By that the maximum speed would also drop in the peloton.
