Interview Irina Murzina

 Interview Irina Murzina

You're young, showing your talent at home soil and want to discover the World in your sport as well. That's what Irina Murzina dreams to do. The 21 years old rider showed potential as a sprinter on road & track, inspired by the other champions who have booked succeses before her. So far, the young Russian could only race in her homecountry, China and Turkey before, but she hopes to ride the well known races abroad as well. A conversation with a rider who dreams about discovering new horizons on her cycling journey.

You were among the best riders in your home country this year. Is it one of your dreams to become national champion one day?

Yes, 2025 was a very successful year for me, with many victories, podiums and strong results among Russian riders. Of course, becoming a national champion is a dream for many athletes, and I also have this dream. It gives me a lot of motivation and helps me move forward step by step

Would you like to achieve big results abroad too?

Yes, absolutely. This is a big goal and a big dream for me. Racing abroad means new countries, new cities, different courses and meeting new people. All of this really attracts me. I would like to be closer to high-level professional riders and grow through international competition.

You combine road & track cycling. Would you like to keep doing the combination?

Yes, I currently race both on the track and on the road. Road cycling attracts me more, and if I get the opportunity to join a road team, I would probably focus mainly on road and keep track as a second priority.

Many Russian road cyclists gained experience on the track before too. Is it usually a part of the youth programs in the country, or is it just a coincidence?

In our country, track cycling is still very dominant. Track riders more often compete at European Championships, World Championships and the Olympic Games, and they return with medals. Because of this, many young cyclists start their careers on the track, and later some of them move to road cycling. So it’s not really a coincidence.

What are your main strengths as a rider?

My main strength is my sprinting ability. Thanks to my sprint skills, I feel confident in fast finishes and can fight for good results in bunch sprints.

If you could meet one famous cyclist for a coffee ride, who would it be?

It’s very difficult for me to choose just one cyclist, because I find many athletes interesting in their own way. I really enjoy learning from different riders — their experiences, their paths in sport and their views on life. For me, any opportunity to talk with a professional cyclist and hear their story would be very valuable.

What are your main interests outside the sport?

I enjoy photography, even though I don’t share my photos very often. This year I also discovered a real love for books. I like spending time with my friends and enjoying simple moments outside of sport.

What can we wish you for 2026?

Victories, of course ! And also good health, progress and new opportunities.
