Interview Irene Cagnazzo
After a strong start of the season between several ProTeam riders in the Tour of El Salvador, Irene Cagnazzo has also hit the top 10 on European soil. The 20-years-old rider finished 7th in the UCI race, in Eibar, in April and has continued her strong form with another decent result on the same level in her native Italy afterwards. The talented rider aims to keep improving further by achieving successes in the national grand tour of her country, and to be part of the Italian delegation at the Olympics one day. Get to know one of the future Italian pros that you might encounter at the start of many big classics in the future.
You’ve already taken multiple top-10 spots in UCI races this spring. How do you look back on your season so far?
For now I am satisfied, but I aim to improve even more.
You turn 21 this year. What are your long-term ambitions in the sport?
My long term ambition for now is to participate at the Giro d'Italia but in general, I want to improve by learning more and more and compete with the best in the World.
Would you like to keep focusing on your current strengths, or do you also dream of targeting other types of races?
I would like to improve in all aspects so as to be competitive in almost all races.
Who inspired you to start racing?
I started riding a bike thanks to my brother
Which races do you dream of riding one day?
The Tour de France above all race but also the Olympic road race.
In which other races can we cheer for you this season?
I already don’t know but i wish to take part at the Giro d’Italia and the national championships in my native Italy
How do you like to prepare on race day?
i like to listen to my favourite music and focus on what I want to achieve at that race
What are your main interests outside of cycling?
I like to go outside with my friends but in general spend quality time with the people that I love.
